Ndaung Snake
Ndaung Snake was originaly folktale from Bengkulu that spoke a story of a girl who married
a snake because she was promised something. Once upon a tome, a small family lived at
Bengkulu mountain, they were live by only works at field to fullfill family needs due to survive.
Unfortunately the oldest and middle child was ignoring them and not give a hand to help them.
Sadly as a result of working hard at field Mother was ill and only can cure by magic holy water
made from mountain leafs cooked by the mystical coals. The youngest child to do favor to help
Tabib cure her Mother.
The youngest child was warn by Tabib that the mystical coals at the mountain was guard by
huge snake called “Ndaung Snake” Tabib said if she got caught there is no way out. After
convinced herself, the youngest child went to the mountain after several hour of walking she
finally arrive at the cave and also get caught by the Ndaung Snake. The youngest child was
frightened but she try to explain her intention to Ndaung Snake why she want the mystical
coals to cure her mother that ill.
Surprisingly Ndaung Snake was understand and agreed with her request however Ndaung
Snake want a payback that after the youngest child cure her mother, she have to married him.
Without hesitation she accepted the terms. She came back home brought the mystical coals and
gave it to Tabib. Tabib start to made the medicine and after while her mother was cured. Then,
the youngest child came back to the cave to fulfill her promiss with Ndaung Snake to married
him. At the end of the story it is find that the Ndaung Snake was actually a prince not a giant
snake.
